Facts and Myths about Aerial Adventures

Skydiving is not just an extreme sport, but also an activity created out of safety measures. In 1797, when Andres Jacques Farnerin jumped out of a hot air balloon and landed, it became the first successful parachute landing.  The main function has always been to save lives of passengers on a plane, in case it crashes. Parachute then evolved to a fun and adventurous hobby called skydiving.

For something new or unknown, skydiving became a dangerous activity for most people. Anti-skydiving activists were driven by the myths of skydiving, until people understood the safety procedures, top quality of the gear, and rare accidents. Based on the annual death toll in the U.S., caused by this extreme sport, is one in every 100,000 jumps. This rate of fatality is pretty low compared to other causes of deaths -excluding other extreme sports- like car accidents, bus journeys, getting run over by a vehicle and such.

There are various impressions about Skydiving. For most people, it is the sport for the rich, because it’s gear and equipments are expensive. However, there are organizations who conduct skydiving events for free. If you are interested to try this sport out, you don’t have to spend for anything. Another way you can experience this is to look for sponsors who are willing to finance your skydiving venture.

You don’t have to be completely healthy to participate in a skydiving event. That’s another fact intended to clear out a popular myth about skydiving.  Some people would say that a person who is affected with epilepsy or other diseases cannot try this sport. That someone should submit a fitness certificate issued by a doctor. Truth is, anybody can actually get a fitness certificate even when they have a mild form of epilepsy.
